Biography   

Flutist, Artist, Educator  |  Dr. Charlotte Daniel (she/her) serves as Principal Flutist of the Waco Symphony Orchestra, and Associate Professor of Flute at the Baylor University School of Music, where she leads applied instruction and weekly studio classes for all flute majors, coaches woodwind chamber music, and supervises flute operations within the School of Music.  Prior to moving to Waco, she was based in Austin, Texas for four years, completing the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at The University of Texas at Austin in 2015. 

As trio musician, she can be heard on Music for Flute, Viola, and Piano (Centaur Records, Inc), published for streaming on all major platforms in November 2024. (Link here) With Dr. Kathryn Steely, viola, and Dr. Kae-Hosoda Ayer, piano, this album features works of Rachel Laurin, Sarah Gibson, Mira J. Spektor, Eduardo Angulo, and Gonzalo Garrido-Lecca. Live performances include two American Viola Society Festivals (2024, 2022);  The University of Florida, (2023); and Baylor University (2023).

Performances as concerto soloist include W.A. Mozart’s Concerto No. 2 in D Major with Camerata Panamá at the 13th Annual Festival Internacional de Música Alfredo de Saint Malo (Panama City, Panama);  Joel Puckett’s 'The Shadow of Sirius' with the Baylor University Wind Ensemble; and Paul Hindemith’s Concerto for Woodwinds, Harp, and Orchestra with the Waco Symphony Orchestra. 

As guest presenter or masterclass teacher, Charlotte has appeared at 19 universities in the US, including: the University of Kansas, University of Texas at San Antonio, University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley, Texas A&M University-Commerce, University of North Texas, The University of Texas at Austin, Texas Christian University, University of North Carolina at Greensboro, State University of New York at Potsdam, California State University-Fresno, Bowling Green State University, University of Wisconsin Madison, Northern Kentucky University, Oklahoma State University, University of Central Oklahoma, and Southeastern Oklahoma State University.   

 

 

Featured solo recital performances include The University of North Texas, The University of Texas at Austin, Texas Flute Society, Austin Flute Society, Central Texas Flute Festival, Southeastern Oklahoma State University, McMurry University, and five full faculty recitals at Baylor University with Kae Hosoda-Ayer, piano. In addition to two decades of work within the traditional flute canon, Charlotte enjoys exploring artistic programming for a contemporary age. In performance and teaching, she often looks to celebrate works by underrepresented voices, living composers, and stories which speak to societal issues of the present.

She has performed and presented at international conventions, including the National Flute Association (Orlando); American Viola Society Festival and International Viola Congress (Los Angeles; Columbus GA); International Double Reed Society (Boulder CO); and at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention (San Antonio, TX).

As orchestral musician, she has performed over 37 concert cycles as Principal Flutist with the Waco Symphony Orchestra, since the 2016-2017 season. In a freelance capacity, she has performed with the Austin Symphony Orchestra, Austin Chamber Music Center Orchestra, Round Rock Symphony, Abilene Philharmonic, Ann Arbor Opera, and as fellow with the Brevard Music Center and National Music Festival summer festivals.

 

With the Baylor Winds Faculty Quintet, she has traveled for performance and teaching residencies at the University of Costa Rica, 13th Annual Festival Internacional de Música Alfredo de Saint Malo (Panama City and Boquete, Panama); Mountain Light Music Festival (Durango, CO), and for recitals at Oklahoma State University, University of Oklahoma, and Baylor University. 

 

With the Austin-based QuinTexas Wind Quintet, she was awarded the Silver Medal Prize at the 2016 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition (South Bend, IN), and the Coleman-Saunderson Prize at the 2015 Coleman Chamber Ensemble Competition (Pasadena, CA). Charlotte also served as visiting faculty artist at the 2024 Round Top Festival Institute (Round Top, TX).

Charlotte earned degrees in flute performance from University of Texas at Austin (2015); University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre, and Dance (2012); and Oklahoma State University (2010), where her primary teachers include Marianne Gedigian, Amy Porter, and Conor Nelson. When not performing or teaching, she loves running, recycling, animal advocacy, and devouring documentaries, film, theater, Survivor, and vegan food.
